We are a group of Boulder County workers forming a union to have a strong and positive workplace voice. Like you, we work to provide crucial services to the residents of Boulder County. We are proud to work at Boulder County and want to make it the best workplace possible. We are building a strong, worker-led, democratic union run by and for its members.

We formed the Committee to Organize Boulder County in 2020, building on past unionization efforts. We have built our committee over the last three years and are proud of what we have already accomplished (and what we can build over the next few years as more people get involved):

  • Recruited and built our grassroots, independent organizing committee for the last few years. (Join us! We meet weekly.)

  • Collected “I want a union” authorization cards to call for a union election.

  • Designed and distributed a survey to gather information on issues.

  • Met with our county administrator, Jana Petersen, and HR director, Julia Larsen, to build a constructive labor-management relationship and maintain ongoing communication about our issues as workers.
  • At our request, County Admin Petersen informed supervisors and managers about the  Boulder County Neutrality Policy in the fall of 2022.

  • Met multiple times with our county commissioners and have been in dialogue with them to secure their ongoing support for upholding the 2007 Boulder County Neutrality Policy. (Join our Legislative and Political Action efforts!)

    • Marched with fellow local labor members in the 2022 and 2023 Louisville Labor Day Parade. (Join us for future Louisville Labor Day Parades!)

  • Collaborated with the Boulder Area Labor Council (BALC), the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC), and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) to get resources to strengthen our organizing efforts. (Do you have community connections to strengthen our movement? Please connect!)

  • Want to get involved to help us shape future meetings? Join our committee!

  • Researched, debated, and considered whether to continue organizing as an independent union or affiliate with a national union to strengthen our efforts. Learn why we chose CWA.
